Bodily Injury Liability -covers the injuries to someone else that is caused by the driver (insured) listed on the insurance policy.  You are also covered when driving someone's car with their permission.

            This coverage also pays for:

  • Medical and burial costs

  • Punitive and compensatory damages that may be awarded by the courts

  • Bail up to $250 if you are arrested

Property Damage Liability - covers the damage that  the driver listed on the policy may cause to someone's property.  This is not limited to the damage that may be caused to someone's automobile, but could also be their home, building, fence, or other structures that your car may damage.

Auto Liability  Insurance Texas Limits 25/50/25

  • $25,000 per person for Bodily Injury
  • $50,000 per accident for Bodily Injury
  • $25,000 per accident for Property Damage
Texas will raise the minimal required liability limits to 30/60/25 beginning on January 1, 2011.

Collision - one of the two types of physical damage coverage that provides protection against damages you or the insured driver may incur in an accident with other automobiles, stationary objects, or road hazards.

Comprehensive - is the second type of physical damage coverage available to insure against damages other than that of a collision.  Examples of comprehensive insurable causes are fire, floods, riots, vandalism, etc.  Auto theft is not covered unless it is reported to the police authorities.

Personal Injury Protection (PIP)- this elective, no fault auto insurance endorsement pays for the medical expenses of the insured and passengers involved in the accident.  It also reimburses up to 80% of loss wages and other expenses.

Uninsured and Under- insured Motorist Coverage (UM/UIM)  - This is an optional coverage that pays up to your policy limits in the event that an at-fault driver hits you and does not have adequate liability coverage to pay for your damages and other related expenses.  It also pays for hit-and-run accidents.    There is no deductible for bodily injuries due to (UM/UIM), but there is a $250 deductible for property damage repairs.

There are penalties for drivers with no Texas auto insurance.

Texas drivers must be able to provide proof of insurance when requested by a law enforcment officer or when applying for vehicle registration.  This proof of insurance can be verified by the insurance card that was insued by your insurance company.  Driving with no car insurance may result in the following:

The first offense is may result in a fine between $175 and $350.  The punishment for the second and third offense can range from  a fine of $350 to $1000, and/or suspension of your drivers license, and your vehicle may be impounded.

Important things to know when looking for the cheapest auto insurance in Texas:

Driving record - A Texas auto insurance company may review your driving records for tickets, accidents, convictions, etc.  Insurance companies may vary on the length of the driving period that they review the driving history.  Some companies go back as far as five years or more, while others may only go back as much as three years.  Since we work with a variety of Texas auto insurance companies, we are able to limit our review process (depending on the insurer) to a three year driving record.

Insurance Premium Variance - The cost of an insurance policy can vary quite a bit, depending on the insurance carrier.  Your premium (for the same coverage)will not be any cheaper if you change agents that work for the same insurance company.  The price for the same policy by the same company can not change.  This is  mandated by the Texas Department of Insurance.  Therefore, you can not negotiate your policy premium with a different agent of the same company.  As an independent agency, we have the ability to "shop around" until we are able to find you a policy that is affordable Texas auto insurance policy.

Policy lapse - Drivers that routinely allow their coverage to lapse are viewed as an increased risk.  Because of this, insurance companies usually rate the premium coverage higher.  Try to get coverage that you can afford to pay and make timely premium payments.  We provide the flexibility by working with insurance companies that offer annual, bi-annual, and monthly insurance policies.

Higher Deductibles-  If you feel that you can afford to meet the deductibles in case of an insurance claim, this may be the way to go if you are looking to lower your monthly premiums.  By electing this option, it's important to ensure you have money available to pay the deductible because the insurance company will not "pay out" until you meet your deductible.

Discounts offered by Insurance Companies -  Some insurance companies will offer discounts if certain criteria is met.  If you insure more than one vehicle with an insurance company, you may receive a multiple-car discount.  Also purchasing Texas home and auto insurance will result it a nice discount.  A person that is married may receive a discount based on that marital status.  By allowing the insurance company to automatically deduct your insurance premiums  from your bank account by EFT (electronic funds transfer) will often save you a few dollars.

Amount of Coverage - If you desire more coverage than the basic coverage required by the state of Texas, you will pay more.  Talk with your agent to make sure that you get only the coverage that you need.
It is important to notify your insurance company if you have replaced or purchased another vehicle.  Some Texas automobile insurance policies may automatically cover new vehicles with some exceptions.  Review your policy to see if this provision is included and notify your insurance agent.

All states in the U.S. (including Canada) recognize your Texas vehicle insurance policy as being sufficient in meeting the your financial obligation should you be found liable in a motor vehicle accident.  A Texas automobile insurance policy is not recognized, therefore, is not valid in Mexico.  For liability coverage in Mexico, an amendment must be made to your policy.
