Young Drivers Auto Insurance

Wow time surely does fly!  You have watched your child develop from a baby, to a toddler, preschooler, and now....a teenager.  If your child is like most teenagers or young adults, he or she is always on the go.  The time has now come that your teenager wants to have the keys to the car!

Because your teen has been very responsible, you want to reward this by allowing him or her the opportunity to drive the car.  Before you do this, you should make sure that the young driver is insured.  Not only is it the auto insurance law in Texas, but it is simply the responsible thing to do.

To be realistic, insurance for young new drivers driver will cost more than for an adult or someone with greater driving experience.  Some Texas Insurance Companies require the names of all drivers to be listed on your auto insurance policy.  If found out later that this was omitted, they may bill you for the difference on your next insurance premium.

If your child is a student at a school that is located away from home, inform your insurance company.  The rate should be based where the teen is located, this in turn, may reduce your insurance premium.  There are other things that may reduce the premiums.  Some insurance companies offer a discounted rate if your child is involved in community or Non-profit organizations such as the Girl Scouts or 4-H Club.

Another way to get cheap young drivers insurance is to have your child enroll in a state approved driver safety course. This course, if approved, may be taught by the parent.  If this is something that you have not done, now is the time.  Because of a rule change approved by Texas congressional leaders in 2009, drivers between the ages of 18-24 will be required to complete a driver safety course before receiving a drivers license.

Some insurance companies in Texas offer discounted Texas auto insurance rates if your child has a specified grade point average in school.  Insurance companies feel these students may be a more cautious driver, therefore, a lesser risk when driving.  Teenagers and inexperienced drivers are still consider a high risk driver, but some are more high risk to a greater degree - statistically speaking.

Just like all drivers, teenage and inexperienced drivers will have to adher by the same traffic laws and Texas auto insurance requirements as other drivers.   You need an agent that is experienced with cheap insurance for young drivers in Texas.
